    Turbo Boffins please help part 2

    So my car runs 10psi (the Colt) slightly below standard due to fmic.

    These restrictors removed make the car run 25psi. Regarldes of restrictors is the turbo working exactly the same?

    Ie is it working harder or the same? Do the restrictors simply lower the boost but the turbo spins the same?


    Help.

    Not entirely sure what you're asking, but by the sounds of it ... I would say no.

    It doesn't make any sense to have the turbo produce 25psi but only let the engine see 10psi.

    I would imagine the restriction is doing something to limit the boost produced by the turbo, for example opening the wastegate earlier ...

    We think this is the turbo on my car. Does anyone know enough about turbos to answer waht is the maximum safe boost acheivable on this turbo without it destroying itself?

    Have a read - this is quite helpful:

    "Let's compare the stock TD04-09B turbo to the popular TD04-15G at 15 psi boost. The maximum effective volume flow table above indicates that the stock turbo should be running out of air somewhere near 5000 RPM. After this point, boost values will decrease, as the stock turbo cannot supply the required airflow. On the other hand, the 15G should be able to hold 15 psi boost clear to 7000 RPM."

    Yeah kinda already did, Its coz im not technical i dont really get a lot of that mate. Im after "your mate thats running 25psi will destroy his turbo" kinda answer.

    Simple answer mate, the more pressure/flow the turbo produces the faster its spinning so its working harder.

    You'll prob need to know the A/R size's of the turbo to see what sort of pressure it will safely run.
