winter odds and sods - Updated!

so for the 1st time my car is voluntarily off the road over winter

with the economic climate i just can't afford to have it sitting outside my house gettin covered in salt and crap, so i'm making the most of the garage time and doing odds and sods till i get it back (when the weather gets better)

havn't touched it in the last few months until about a week ago:

had starting issues, off with the carb, turned out to be accelerator pump was seized, making it a mission to start from cold, and hesitant when blipping the throttle. Because my car is stored... i can't just put it straight back on... so got busy with the dremel :P

also got my spare manifold at my mates engineering place... to be fabricated for a mount for my external WG 8)

    the ginger mobile

manifold back to me until the wastegate arrives, then its back for it to be mated up to the plate on the manifold.
had to be welded on instead of cnc'd as the weld to make it flat kept destroying the cutters on the mill... oops

the carb polishing is ongoing as well.... keep doing bits and bobs here and there whenever i get a spare few mins

todays update.. a bit more polishing and an adaptor for the pipe to mount the wastegate onto... just gotta wait for the WG to arrive and get it positioned using my bro's car as a template.. then its off to get the screamer pipe adaptor made.

The carb looks amazing mate. What are you using to clean it up?

just a wire wheel on the dremel and some metal polish

cleans up suprisingly well, there is a pic with 2 carbs... we spent about 30secs on the enrichment bit and it came up silver as you can see

my spare carb looks like that well it did! now you can see parts that are slowly oxidising! i cant think of what to use to stop this from happening? it looks kind of like limescale that starts on the edges.

Looks very good...was it hard to polish carb? What kind of tools you used in dremel?

carb was easy peasy, just a wire wheel in the dremel, the steel one not the brass type, made it shiny, then just some compound and a mini mop to get it flat ish, then just applied some good metal polish with dremel and so far so good

raj you can spray some clear lacquer on them. i did one ages ago and carefully lacquered it and it lastest. im sure its still sat in garage with about ten other broken up carbs..

    Good work markey, looks tasty........

Thats the 1 to suit my EFI manifold so there's abit more room to work with, the version to fit the carb manifold will be abit different

I like the style of your GT !!!

work to carry out and remarkable!!

on the other hand you would have a bond has to spin me to see all work accomplished top that it is in body, as in mechanics, because I seek and does not find anything
