    Finding blocked ports in Vista?

    Ah hoy, hoy.

I have this problem with Vista. Despite it being a load of crap, it is currently not allowing a program that communicates with TFTP unless I disable the Base Filtering Engine service, which isn't ideal because the Windows Firewall relies on this service to run.

I presume somewhere a port that this program uses is being blocked but I can't tell what ports Windows is blocking! Windows Firewall is disabled and so is Defender, so what else could be blocking this port(s)???

Does anyone know how to scan a Vista machine to show a list of blocked ports, or does anyone know how to configure this Base Filtering Engine?

Long shot, I know, but if you don't ask...

Do you know what port the TFTP service runs over? I presume it will be the default 69, you will probably just need to enable the service but if turning off the base filtering engine does it then who cares about windows firewall. Windows firewall is pointless inside a local network, your router has a much better hardware firewall... is it work or at home?

At work unfortunately mate, boss wants, boss must have

The tftp port is 69, the service is enabled (enabled from the programs and features add-on thing). It's strange because this program worked for ages until one day when it decided it didn't want to play ball... Windows updates, always improving...

Already been disabled but the problem still persists. It's only when this damn Base Filtering Engine is stopped that the problem goes away and I can login to the program. The program is Avaya Phone Manager (IP Office) if that's of any relevance.

Check the firewall rules, for port 69 even if it’s disabled in vista. Like a 5... basics first

If you reckon this stopped working around the same time as installing Windows Updates then roll them back and see if it starts working again. Especially if any of them are Security Updates.

Do you have a test area for updates before pushing them out to all the PCs?
