    Uploading files

    Gents,

I'm trying to upload a pdf document to the files section. I notice this file type is not supported?

Pdf is probably the most common of all file types that incorporates a lot of information. Can we look into allowing pdf documents to be uploaded?

Also 2 meg limit might be a bit tight.

    Thanks

Is there not a list somewhere of stuff like this that needs doing?

If there isn't, perhaps you could compile one? Ad to it as more becomes apparent, or previous lists, comments, requests, suggestions is/are re-found.

    Re: Uploading files

There is a thread somewhere with web ideas and dev requests on. This isn't the type of thing that needs to go on there though, this is the type of thing that can be done in about 5 minutes flat if you have the web access and knowledge.

Is there only Mick that's able to make this change?

    Yes.

I think it might be that the files section are the RTOC website, ie, Scoffs pages, and not the Forum. So that means using FTP transfer to download, modify, upload the edited file. And which file? And what to edit of Scoffs custom written script?

    So not really 5 minutes.

I'm sure these file format and size restrictions were altered a couple of times over the years. Actually, weren't they altered recently (and temporarily) to allow someone (Dale?) to upload something big (like Dialogys stuff or some such)!?

Even if it's one of Scoff's pages, to d/l, modify and upload it is a 5 minute job (as long as you know which file and where of course, which I realise might be the issue here, the same old issue ).

    Re: Uploading files

Wasn't that Dale stuff uploaded to the forum?

The Forum has tick boxes, type of thing, it's all done for the admin, just have to know where to look.

Scoff pages, however, are pages of program language, no tick boxes. It may require a new line, or lines, of code to be written to make such a change, maybe in PHP or HTML.

I have done this in the past to extend his work a bit, but that was a decade ago.

If you hover your mouse over this posts avatar photo it expands. That was my idea to show the photo better, didn't quite work as the original res is too small. But to do it we had to hire a programmer to write new code as vBulletin does not contain tick boxes or that sort of thing.

Some of Scoff pages do have a graphical user interface that allows some things to be done without writing new code, but not as much as vBulletin provides.

    Re: Uploading files

    Thanks for the clarification Ian.

It does look like the Dialogys information was uploaded to the forum, creating new directories. In which case, why can't we start a new files section in the forum and begin uploading to that area? And in the background, start moving things over from the bespoke files section to the new files section?

    Re: Uploading files

Well, it looks like pdf is catered for in the forum:

    https://www.rtoc.org/boards/attachmen...5&d=1486397209

We just need a new 'files' section creating on it so Matt can upload. Then a folder structure similar to the existing files section creating and the files moving across. Maybe that section can then be disused?
