Daily rides ?
Hey all, hope you are well, as you know I am franticly saving to get ,y first ever 5.....
how many of you use yours as your daily car ? Or are they just a once a week thing ?
I have a old N plate mint hardtop convertible BMW that I use for everyday, but would I be able to use my 5 everyday or is that not advisable lolol
Thanks
Steve

Re: Daily rides ?
With mediocre power levels well built and set up they can be reliable. I used mine for 5 years daily and never ended up at the road side.
It's however mostly in bits nowadays

Re: Daily rides ?
As long as it's maintain, no reason why it shouldn't. Plenty of members have driven to the Nurburgring, done a few laps and driven back without fault. As said, just a case of it being properly maintain.

copper core rad

oil pressure gauge - mechanical ,
mechanical - water temp gauge
Wide band AFR , with audible warning

Re: Daily rides ?
Luckily enough always had the access to another car if mine broke down. Used my mild tuned for a summer and it hated me regardless of maintenance

Re: Daily rides ?
Used mine as my daily for 10 years. Did over 100k miles and think it only ever came home on the back of a recovery truck twice.

Re: Daily rides ?
I used mine as a daily from about 1995 up until 2004 I think. Had the clutch cable snap 3 or 4 times and even spent most weekends modding the car. Apart from the clutch cable, only other problem I had was a plug blowing clean out of the head, a dodgy starter and the usual stuff which goes on any car such as brake discs/pads, servicing etc.
As a standard car i was getting about 32mpg which wasnt bad, but in the end after modding it was more like 15mpg so I decided to get a diesel car instead, residing the 5GTT to be a fun weekend car.
