    Insurance - no alarm

Anyone had a decent quote for insurance on their GTT without an alarm?

Just tried HIC but they wanted £543. I'm 27, 8 years NCB.

I used performance direct for a quote last year and was quoted ~£120, but didn't take the policy out as the car was nowhere near ready. Now the car is going to be ready in March and i'd like to get a decent insurance policy sorted..

    Re: Insurance - no alarm

You asked them how much less the policy will cost with a cat1 alarm?
Might be worth shelling out and putting one on the car.

    Have you seen this thread/poll;

I'm not keen on Adrian flux, but I might give them a go to see if they're much cheaper.

I will get an alarm fitted eventually but not yet, i've had cheap quotes before without an alarm so not sure why they're suddenly so expensive. Will see what prices are like in a months time when i need the insurance..

    Re: Insurance - no alarm

I paid £250 last week with Peter James insurance.

    I declared every single modification.

All the engine mods, coilovers, lowering, window tints, stripped out interior, reclining bucket seats, Williams Alloys. Vented Bonnet, literally everything.

1.5k miles a year (I will be lucky)
Fully comp (can drive other peoples cars)

I thought that was expensive but my area suffers very badly from the old crash for cash.

    Some really good prices there.

Insurance companies don't want to know at the minute because I don't want the policy to start until March this year. I'll give them a call at the beginning of march and hopefully get a decent quote to go with

I've been specifying 3000 miles per year on my policies, i think that's a bit ambitious since it's covered about 20 miles in 3 years

Did mine last week, Adrian Flux £151 fully comp, 2k miles with cage/mods/chairs etc declared.

    Can't argue....

They insure my E36 M3 for £299 too. Maybe I'm just getting old....!

Flux Direct , 5000 miles per year, all mods declared, kept on a drive with just a cheap alarm fitted.
£185 which is cheap for my area, lots of crash for cash claims here

    Re: Insurance - no alarm

Well, just called Flux Direct after seeing some of the prices on here.

What a bunch of dicks. They're definitely Adrian Flux under a different name, and the same shitty service I got with them before.

The woman on the phone couldn't have possibly tried any harder to get me to take the policy out, she didn't give a flying **** whether it was suitable for me or not. All they wanted was to take my money and give me 14 days to find it cheaper elsewhere.

I seriously can't stand some insurance companies and they way they operate, scum of the earth unfortunately.

Might give Sky Insurance a call since i've already got 2 cars insured with them and they've always been great on the phone. Will also try Peter James and Brentacre.

    Thanks for the recommendations.

    Re: Insurance - no alarm

Sky came back with £360 as well, but that's just based on a normal car policy and not a classic.

Tried Peter James and spoke to a LOVELY lady on the end of the phone, what a breath of fresh air. No pressure, really polite, couldn't be more helpful. She quoted £201 on a classic policy which is really good, unlimited mileage.

I've ran out of time on my lunch break now but i'm going to give Brentacre a try tomorrow and see if they're any cheaper, and if not i'll go with Peter James

    Re: Insurance - no alarm

Couldn't beat the Peter James quote anywhere else. Their policy sounds great, unlimited mileage (lol, i'd be lucky with 10 miles out of my shit heap), covered to drive any other vehicle third party, fully comprehensive cover and agreed value.

Insurance has been purchased and starts on Saturday, when it will be going for an MOT. It's only been 3 years since I bought the thing. Wish me luck!
