Cleaned the inlet valves/ ports on my audi yesterday
Before
And after
These engines are direct injection so the injector is not in the inlet, it is after the valves and injects directly into the cylinder, the problem with this is there's no fuel washing over the valves to keep them clean.
So the oil breathers blow hot sticky oil vapours into the inlets and then the egr valve blows exhaust gases into it and the sooty air sticks to the oil residue and clogs everything up.
I spent some of yesterday cleaning it all up.
I hope it was worth it lol.

Ditch the EGR and fit an oil catch tank?

That would work.
Someone else with a turbo version has fitted water/meth injection and that's had a steam cleaning effect.
With mine I'm selling the car and getting something much better lol.
