    Fantastic national day

I've just got back and I have to say I loved the weekend. Smaller field meant everyone was bunched up and it felt more communal and lots of socialising. I didnt go on track but it was nice to see the usuals and some new faces out there.
Also nice to see bob from cgb arrived with some spares and a nice demo car. The rolling road for me was the highlight and nice to see it being used all day by most.
Well done to all who organised it as it was a great weekend and I'm sure the antics will carry on through tonight.

For all those who didn't come due to commitments you really missed out

Disappointing nite,6 of us sitting round a camp fire at 12.30 am, totally dead.
Reasonable track but not as good as Mallory, if nd is here next year instead of Mallory it'll be a shame...

I've seen this several times over the years now. It's cheaper for them to get others to attend the events, take pics, and do a write up. They never have any intention of turning up/getting involved. They just want to publish their magazine as cheaply as they can, and make as much profit as they can.

Why pay their staff, when they can get somebody to work for them for free?

Although I never drove round the track, from a spectators view it looked quite entertaining. I'll deffinately do a track day there now.

Blyton is only 40 minutes from my front door, so for me it couldn't be better. It's got all the facilities needed. I had a great time! Roll on 2013!!

    Re: Fantastic national day

Sounds like the venue was more appropriate in terms of size this year (i.e. smaller), to bring folk closer together. Good stuff.

I don't think some realise just how few GTT's (the core car of the club, no disrespect to other models) are left on the roads. It's been years since there was a 'big' turn out at any event. RTOC is never again going to fill bigger venues, not for any other reason than a physical lack of the classic motors the club is made up of.

How many cars were there? If it was more than 100 then I'd say that was a good result. How many truly active members are there in RTOC atm who own a Renault Turbo? 350? If you got one in three to the same event, that's good going, although anything over half would be ideal given that it's a ND.

And better to keep this club small, high quality and well organised IMO. It's by far the best place to be for Renault enthusiasts, most certainly for 80's and 90's cars.

Would be great to see some pics of the day and a run down of trophy winners.

There should be tons of pics, marshals round the track were taking them all day and off track too. Along with the cars all lined up and the parade lap.

The track was perfectly suited to the 5 and massively more technical than the Mallory oval with the flat out 4th gear chicane then braking for a 90degree right hander with a bumpy braking zone. Amazing track.

Had a fantastic day thanks all for all the hard work organising it. Was good to catch up with everybody

I found the track technical but good fun, was hard to keep my big turbo on song & no lsd = wheelspin out of every corner lol. Still had loads of fun 4 wheel drifting the van though Free rolling road was a win too!

Who took the track pics? I seen loads of people with cameras.

I couldn't stay the whole day so didn't catch up with as many people as I wanted too, but definately seemed like a good atmosphere with everyone loving the track. A shame there wasn't more people there, not much the organisers could do about that but the venue and atmosphere I thought was spot on. Well done to dawn, steve, chris and everyone else

Really great to see the comments guys, be it good or bad.

I've had to ask people's opinions on the track itself as unfortunately I didn't actually get time to go out on track with anyone, despite lots of offers from you lovely lovely people!

I'll start a proper thread probably tonight or tomorrow so we can discuss the finer points and get some real opinions on various aspects of the weekend, all so we can make 2013 even better

Good day, nice friendly people, not including the jap stuff, the 5 gt turbo with scraps no. Plate and the black Peugeot 205 were very quick around the track and the white van was seriously quick on the straights!

    Re: Fantastic national day

Absolutely cracking weekend, great to meet with the RTOC gang again, I'm getting to know people better and better every year.

Great to see Mart doing the rounds with his Olympic torch - there should be some amazing pictures of that. Great to see the french and Belgium guys - 10/10 for there efforts, especially there cool heads when the Belgium chaps car bust it's water pump. Again 10/10 to the chap who supplied the replacement.

The weekend was fantastic from the moment we got there until the moment we left, Track was great for totally different reasons than Mallory and the crack with everyone was ace. Millie and Steve have got to be the Ska-king and Queen. The only disappointment was my car being an arse, but hopefully, thanks to Logg, Dave (276bhp) Reed and Big foot, I may have the answers to some problems I'm having currently (no pun intended)

Roma was great fun to have in the car as was Oli (the oil slick) Ipswich despite my 360 deg outing -

A big thanks to the comitee, the venue was great and all your hard work paid off, true it aint no Mallory, but it was a more challenging track if not as impressive. Well done you lot.

For those who did not embrace the fantastic weekend - try again next year you won't be disappointed. For those who did attend and where disappointed, that's a real shame as when I'm at work tomorrow, I'll look back with great memories and I'm glad of that.

    Re: Fantastic national day

Got the car back without the aid of a recovery, got to thank everyone who decided to cheer when I arrived on the back of a truck, what did you expect, me to turn up in a 5 which works fine and thanks to all those who offered / and helped with my car getting it ready to head back home today which glad to say apart from blowing a hole in the exhaust as well it all went fine. Found some more things which I need to put on the car, plus now having to strip down to change over the inlet manifold which I will do one weekend soon. Will give it some love with some other new items I will get for it or got waiting to be fitted.

Very happy that it won best original car, granted I think I should have washed the car

Big thanks have got to go to Steve (im sure he organised the red arrows fly over) and Dawn to sorting out this great event and putting so many things on offer to the people who attended.

Lol no worries. Jane Usher (wife of Richard who owns the track) assured me that it was her who called them up and arranged the Red Arrows flyover just for the RTOC

That was pretty special wasn't it?! It was one of the (very geeky) highlights of my day

    Re: Fantastic national day

Had a fantastic weekend, thought the organisation was the best yet!(my 6th), so well done guys.
Was nice to see a decent amount of 5's on and off the track.
The track, i thought was much more challenging than mallory which made it much better.
The quickest thing on the day was Alastairs tent when it took off with all his stuff in. Glad he didnt loose anything.
Glad my 5 ran like a dream, there, back, round the track and on the rollers (158.5bhp@1 bar)not too bad, yet again she done me proud, it was her 4th nd in 5 years without a prob and has been tracked everytime.
Nice to see the french guys turn up (in some tasty 5's) Pascals raider, my fav! Closey followed by the red one.
Thanks to Kris M for a few laps in the old cup car, its going really well.
Overall a great National day.... festival. Only down side to me was, its bloody miles away from torquay
Looking forward to seeing some pics

Lol @ Alastairs tent, but technically he did lose something...his loaf of bread

I went to speak to him this morning and he didn't realise until he got everything out to make his toast, bless him!

I was walking up towards the gate area when I looked up and had to rub my eyes as I thought I was seeing things. Yes, that was a big brown tent 20 feet in the air with bags of crisps flying out of it

It's also really great to see the same few things being mentioned as things that people really enjoyed, the challenging track, the closer-knit camping area and the free rolling road and track instruction.

You lot know more about the track than me as I didn't have time to go out as a passenger so I'll have to trust your opinions

    Re: Fantastic national day

thoroughly enjoyed the weekend a big thanks to all concerned,
the track was grate easy to get round but very challenging to get it just right.the close camping was good apart from having Dale behind my tent and his gentle whispering till 2:30 in the morning lol.and seeing alasrairs tent flying over my head was something else. its a shame more didn't make it but you can't have everything.

I really enjoyed the track there, only downside was i didnt want to come back in, 120 miles on track and a full tank of fuel gone. Even at 10psi had such a great time. if i had time i'd happily drive back there next weekend.

And sort Adam out!!! His car is sexy... Haha
Dave, mate, after going out in Mart's Evo, I realised my car could never go round a corner at those speeds without breaking traction. I haven't done a track day properly in quite a while and want something just to smash round the corners. I was supposed to be picking an Evo up today but insurance issues, not with myself, stopped that.

The S15 is a weapon though and looks the dogs.

Good to meet you by the way, pal. Loved your comment as you walked off,''tell Adam to stop being gay''

The weekend was very well done, organisation wise, it's the best I've attended in nearly 10 years. Dawn runs my life, effectively, and she does a bloody good job at it too, so I'm hardly surprised her and Steve knocked out such a cracking event. Well done to the both of you.

    Re: Fantastic national day

He spent all of last week punting it to me via text and when he takes me out for a ride says he doesn't want to sell it anymore

Seriously rapid cars on track, we lapped every car on the final session I think.
