Cheers does anyone know what the limit is on std pistons and what would be the best c/r to be using. 300 bhp is more that enough for me if std pistons are good for that.
Niall aka Ashy used to run skimmed std piston's compression unknown unfortunatly I would have said for turbo application you want around 8.0:1-9.0:1 for turbo application I am not sure how much meat you can actual skim of the std piston's you might want to speak with Wozzer on here he is using skimmed pistons in a current f4r turbo build he is doing but he isn't after big power.
I was thinking around the 8:1 as most turbo'd engines are around that just I worked out how much to take off using the working scoff posted on a thread it cam out at 3.96mm to come of for 8:1 and wondered if there would be enough meat left on to cope with the extra strain added by the turbo.
I think 9:1 will be enough for 300bhp, wether the pistons wil hold is just trial and error.
I was at 280 supercharged on a stock engine, I think I depends on turbo size and manifold design. I think a cast manifold will cause problems but u might get there with good mapping on a decent manifold with a correctly sized turbo. Not sure if the pistons are different on the f4rt but they hit 300 on stock engines.
Hi mate, I machined 1.6mm off the top of mine, can't remember to compression ratio off the top of my head but I think it was around 9:1. The pistons seemed OK, they ran at 270bhp without issue. I sold them to Wozzer for his build. I would think they'd be for 300bhp.
sounds good im planning on making my own manifold and place the turbo where the battery is as it looks v.tight with the bulk head. 300bhp will been future targets will be happy with what ever it makes turbo'd for the moment just doing my homework to save stripping and upgrading internals again for more power.
i have an old t3 from an escort cossie in good nick which a mate of mine was clearing his garage and was going to ebay it so i snapped it up extra cheap.
anyone know if it will work ok?
if its off an escort cossie it will be a t34 so easily do 300bhp, unless its the small turbo escos? t28
seen a few on adaptronic (which scoff supplies/maps) a few on dta and emerald
Stock ecu can be mapped, no problem.
However the fields are less and when sticking a 2,5bar map sensor you'll have pretty large steps for the amount of fields.
When on a budget (like my 9) it's okay but if you want to do it good standalone is the way to go
Does anyone know if there is a cable throttle body that will fit straight on to a f4rt inlet manifold otherwise ill have to make an adaptor plate.
I take it your still using the f4r engine if so the inlet manifold is a different bolt pattern on the head to the f4rt so you would have to make an adaptor place.
If your doing this on the cheap leave it with the f4r inlet and f4r phase 1 172 cable throttle body. I used a phase 2 inlet years back and just drilled and taped so it would except the phase 1 TB
I'm sure AndyRG and Owen both used a Pug 206 1.6 cable throttlebody on the 225 inlet. But they might of needed used an adaptor.
As James points out the f4r and f4rt have different bolt patterns so unfortunately aren't interchangeable.
For such low power do you really want to go to the expense of a tubular manifold when you can get a logg manifold so cheap? yes the turbo sits a little close to the brake lines but with some decent heat shielding you shoud be fine.
