    Anyone do sprinting?

I'm really interested in starting sprinting this year with my GTT as it's now off the road (probably forever). It's very non standard and now nearly completely in racing trim.

However I'm a little confused with the classification's and licencing etc for myself

Can anyone give me a quick idiots guide in to getting started please?

    Huge thanks

    Adam

Join your local motor racing club.
    Get a msa speed licence.
Read the regs associated with the championship you want to compete in.
Alter/modify car to suit the regs.
    Go sprinting.

Russel Thorpe posted a vid on here recently. That's worth a watch.

    Where are you based??

    Re: Anyone do sprinting?

Not sure the category you would be in, as some regs are regional.
See if Nottingham motor club can point you in the direction of the local scrutineer, and give him/her a call with the spec of the car.

Yes been sprinting/racing etc for a while.

    Re: Anyone do sprinting?

Looking at the regs I think I will land in this:

Class 3A: Modified Production Cars excluding Kit, Replica and
    Space-framed cars up to 1400cc.

More than likely up to 2000cc as you are turbo'ed. Capacity will increase with forced induction.

look for "Enter Speed Events ii " on YouTube I made a short film that tells you exactly what you need to do to get into speed events (sprints and hillclimbs) . You will be in class 3 b as stated above. In that class you need a cage extinguisher remote engine cut off. Tony Hart of Prima Racing runs his five in that class in the Nottingham Speed Championship. He is a great bloke and Im sure will be happy to help you in any way he can. Just one thing you wont beat him, not for a few years anyway Good luck and Im happy to help in any way I can. Russell

Super Ill have a look now, Yer I spoke to Tony some years ago at Cadwell, but he was rather occupied at the time.

Oh eeek, Does the cage have to be FIA? I hope not as I have a cage but its an unknown! I have the remote cut off and fire system (but yet to install)

    Thanks again.

We used slicks in our mod prod, but found it difficult to get enough heat into them at certain (Airfield based) sprints, R888's worked well in the dry and alot of the time in the wet too, cuts down on expense on extra wheels and tyres, plus less to carry about.
Alistsiar on here used medium fronts and soft rears when he came to a brands hatch trackday, I'd say that would be s good place to start.

It's just I have some Dunlop slicks to hand but yes good point point on the heat issue, I may have to save them for track days only.
I rather fancy the federal RSR lots of people like then and they are much cheeper than the Toyo's but apparently not quite as good.

I'm just checking out the MSA blue book.

    http://www.msauk.org/site/cms/conten...p?article=1122

Getting myself in a right mess with these regulations, think I'm going to have to go see someone to talk me through whats legal and whats not. for technical I have water injection with Methanol mix for a start, for safely my cage n belts are not Cert plus I have aftermarket bumpers and skirts.

    Re: Anyone do sprinting?

For sure the cage will have to be scrutineered and passed by the MSA, I had a genuine Clio Cup race cage in the 172 which surpassed FIA regs but with no paperwork or stamp it would need to be passed by the MSA.

I'm hoping to enter road going in the 182 at some point

There's so many grey areas in between the rules and regs it's definitely worth going to a local sprint for the day to get a heads up on what you can and can't do.... Or get away with
