Morning all, I need a set of 4 new tyres 195/40/R16...
I've been through the usual websites Black Circle, My Tyres, Cam Skill etc etc... And the Toyo Proxes T1R seem to be the best all rounders for a decent price... £67.40 each.
Just wondering if anyone knows anywhere else I can try? or is there another brand of tyre that would be better?
I use uniroyal rainsport 2 on my car used to have toyos and tried yokos abd the uniroyals are better in dry and much much better in the wet.
depends if your meaning you want to go cheapish but decent or splash out
best tyres i've had for all year round road use are michelin PE2's. simply sublime tyre, but could imagine them being a silly price in your fitment! bad enough in 15" flavour!
i had yoko s-drive in same fitment on my old 16" rims and they weren't too badly priced iirc and were also a pretty good all rounder, found them better than the T1R's tbh
I run 16" on my gt a have found the toyo px4 to be a good tyre.Over all i think 16" wheels to be a little over size for a gtand this is why i will be going back to some 15" soon

its cos they are 16 inch poxy size really they are going to be a bit more price wise
what about trying part worn places they stock some new tyres
Pirelli P-Zero Nero. Best tyres I've ever had. Used to run them on my Sport KA and never lost grip, even when trying to
Eagle f1's if money can afford.. but there really not cheap.
I had Toyo T1-R's on my old 5, and I really liked them. Because of that, I put some on my old Escort gti daily driver, and I hated them with a passion. I reckon wooden tyres would have given me more grip
Be wary of those. I had Eagle F1 Asymmetrics on my Evo. The grip was great, as was the wear rate, but all four cracked badly around the side-walls, on the inside edge. It seems to be quite a common problem with them as well.
I swapped them for Michelin PS3's, which aren't cheap in the slightest, but given the choice, I'd pick Michelin over any other tyre brand. Only because I've never had a bad experience with them on any car (Plus, we all know Renault seem to know what they're doing).
I use the t1rs in that size, good tyre, good price, i am thinking of dropping to 15s to, car just does not feel right.
Toyo R1R seem good if you want good grip from cold in the dry. Not sure how they price up against the old 888.

I used these for a few laps on track and they warm up quickly and grip very well. I reckon they will wear very quickly though.
I also use T1R's in 195/45/15 on my 106 GTi and personally can't fault them. They haven't seen the ice yet but I read a lot of reviews before having them fitted and couldn't see anything bad about them.

nooooo! dont say that, i have eagle f1's on the back of my BMW that i drift occasionally, smell strange when there burning though :S
If they're available in the size you're after, have a look at Federal 595 RS-R tyres. They'll be my next tyre choice for the Jap taxi.
Mart speaks the truth. I run 595 RSRs on my Toyota and they are absolutely excellent. Grip is awesome with a bit of heat in them and they have also lasted really well. Not the greatest when the rain is tipping down, but not awful. Overall great, great tyres.

i'm also after 195/40/16's for my clio, camskill toyo's are by far the cheapest
i have had continentals on all round for a good while now seem good all rounder just not sure exact model? paid 55 trade from warehouse.
16" Rainsports .. the tread still looks brand new
I went away from yoko's, changed to falkens and been using them for years now!!
I may be buying some non run flats for the coops and the falcons seen to come recommended as a good all rounder over on mini torque.
I swore by gsd3 in my evo days, tad expensive though.
Im in the process of complaining about some good year asymmetrics that were on my partners A3, just over 2 years old and the structure has twisted on them, it failed an MOT. I need to wait a few more weeks before we get an outcome.
We have replaced them with asymmetric 2s so i hope they are better.
without sounding like a dick, ashy is after 195/40/16 and there are only a handfull of tyres avaliable in that size, so some idealls arnt' possible due to them not being made, if that makes sense
i'd love some A048R's in 195/40/16 because they are just awesome, but yoko dont make them
You're right - 195/40 16 is a **** size.
I'd recommend the Pirelli P '0' Nero too. A ridiculously good tyre in all conditions.
