    Save the Ring?!

Not sure if this is a bit of a Christmas spoof or what but I've just seen on another forum that there's problems at the Nordschleife??

Sabine's asking us all to SAVE THE RING

And there's a group on Facebook which I know doesn't mean a lot?

Anyone know any more/information about this???

It would appear that there is some truth to this?!

    Have a look at this

Any of the regulars that went on the 07 trip will confirm that it's turned into a bloody circus down there now compared to the little private club it was when we went 3 years ago!

You've been there mate, you know the score - The RingWerk complex is pretty much a ghost town, the type of shops they have there isn't going to appeal (read affordable products) to the majorty of people simply out there to drive the Nordschleife, and the exhibition part, as good as it is, only needs visiting the once to tick the 'been there, done that' box.

Fair enough with upgrading the F1 complex itself (you can probably thank Bernie for instigating that), but they should've left everything else alone. No need for roller coasters, casinos, shops with over-inflated prices, and a now seemingly increase on lap ticket prices each year - Cue reference: http://20832.com/misc/2010/Preise_To...leife_2011.jpg

Fecking disgusting. At those prices, I won't be visiting much in 2011.

In short, they've sold out, and I personally hope Nurburgring GmbH crashes & burns, the slate gets wiped cleaned, then it can hopefully go back to its roots of being a humble, but awesome, race track for fans & drivers alike.

    Re: Save the Ring?!

How about we all stay away until the Lindner guys go bust just to get rid of them. My family and i have decided to cancel our 'ring trip this year as it costs enough driving from near Glasgow out there without having to line someone elses pockets for a modern monstrosity that doesn't bring anything to the experience for those of us who drive the 'original' 'ring (bar the karting i must admit which was good value).
This alway seems to happen around tracks Bernie E visits (i.e. "it's not good enough for F1, rebuild it!"
It's us genuine enthusiasts who always end up footing the bill and losing out!

If my 5 is on the road & proven to be reliable i may be tempted to repeat the european road trip i did in 2008 with mart, big steve, dunc grier and tricky... basically head down to the alps, do stelvio pass, head abit further into italy do some sight seeing there. Then to paris, ring and home...

    Re: Save the Ring?!

I dont see the appeal of the Ring The barriers would put me off giving it 100%,
I would rather be on a proper cicuit I think. But I have never been so dont know what its really like.

.... the Alps though! Love it.
Go to Chamonix and get the cable car onto Mont Blanc! 4300m of something similar. The roads are nice too.

I was exactly the same, until I went!

To be honest, driving the 'ring doesn't really bother me, as it can be a very dangerous place (My first ever time out I saw a huge 8 car pile up, with some very badly hurt people )

The thing that got me though was the atmosphere of the whole town of Nurburg. It's a true petrol heads paradise, that you can't explain until you've experienced it. The first time I went, we were in the petrol station down the road from the 'ring, cleaning the cars, and while we were there about 10 different Ferraris came and filled up with fuel, from all over Europe. Now that's not something you see every day at your local Shell garage

    That sounds like a win!

you could write a list of 50 of your favorite cars and sit in Nurburg ticking each of them off...its a wonderful place..

    Re: Save the Ring?!

I spent 9 days camping at the side or the nurburgring last Aug and only did 5 laps, just drove about to see the sites and chilled out really, had to make sure my car was in a fit state for ND at Mallory (shame i blew it up at Cadwell the wed after mind! lol 2500 miles between rebuilds isn't ideal)
I'm going to stay in the uk this year while i get a van/trailer sorted out for future events but i would be quite happy with driving the Stelvio pass or something like that provided it was just a route with dates/times that were planned and accom/ferries sorted by ourselves. It would also be good if there was a trackday in there somewhere

    Re: Save the Ring?!

Book onto private trackdays is the only answer and will be what I do this year. Not buying a JK this year. I'll do 3 or 4 private Ring days instead and bag a (very few) laps on a weekend if I'm there.

I've really had enough of tourist days. It was a joke last year. So few tourist days there were way too many people packed onto fewer and fewer weekends. Worst year ever.

    Re: Save the Ring?!

Al think your on the money for actually getting some real track time, it was bad last time I went - compared to how it was years ago and just too many idiots but always a good vibe around the place on tourist days

What are the track day costs there approx Al?

New poster! (less than 10 posts)

Never knew that the Nordschleife might be closed down. I hope for the sake of the history and the uniqueness of the circuit, it will continue to stay open.
