MK1 Clio 16v dashboard into Renault 5 - fitment guide

Please can someone post this in the articles section

all pictures are in here: https://www.rtoc.org/boards/album.php?albumid=1229

    You will need:
    clio dashboard and centre console
clio non PAS steering column to match your rack (square or spline)
clio ignition barrel and key (remote and matching IR reciever if required)
clio steering wheel boss and headlight switch
    clio electric window switches
    clio hazard switch
clio foglight switches and wiring plugs
3x top dash retaining clips - Part number:

    plug/switch wiring:

    rear fog:
    1. not used
    2. cream
    3. blue
    4. blue
    5. brown

    front fog
    1. not used
    2. brown
    3. blue
    4. blue
    5. black

    hazard switch
    1. blue
    2. cream
    3. red
    4. green
    5. purple
    6. purple
    7. cream
    8. not used
    9. green/red stripe
    10. grey

    Dash Fitting:

Remove the renault 5 dashboard, leaving the wiring loom in place

Strip the clio dash down and remove white heater vent plate and the internal vents that distribute air to the outer vents

Weld in clio column onto GTT column mount - We added extra bars for strength, now when you wobble the steering wheel hard the only movement is in the bulkhead!

Trim top of GTT heater matrix plate as shown

trim sides of dash to remove about 1" of the sides, then test fit dash screwing to bulkhead as shown

run the gtt loom around behind the dash, seperating the bits you will need

wire in hazard, fog switches etc as shown above, using the GTT wire colours with clio switches

the GTT clocks will fit in the space for dials, brackets need to be fabricated for it to mount securely

for the light switches, i used a clio assembly, with clio steering wheel boss so indicators cancelled, clio/r5 plugs are interchangable.

for wipers, i mounted the r5 switch onto the clio bracket, using a machine screw to adjust its placement, and plugged straight into r5 loom. i'm sure you could use the clio switch, but i remember miller saying wiring was a mission

for central locking/cigar lighter i used the clio loom for them and spliced into the gt loom, yellow for power, black earth, blue for the light and the central locking wires are the same colour on the 5/clio

remove plastic covers from r5 dimmer switch plugs, and fit tags onto clio dimmer (i heatshrinked one to stop shorting out)

i put the electric window switches where the rear fog/HRW switch went, and used 2x drivers side clio switches so front windows now have 'one touch' facility

Fit clio barrel into column, as i had an IR remote key, i used the matching sensor so have got remote locking on the key itself

with the aux gauges next to clocks, i made 3x 52mm holes after stripping out the standard 16v gauges, and fitted volt, oil pressure and boost gauges, then refitted the covers so they look OE. made up a wiring loom to plug them into the car and fitted using the clio fixing points

i used a clio heater panel and plug, tapped into the gtt loom, then set blowers to screen, and used the gtt heater temp cable routed from left to right, cabletied onto the mixer bracket so that i can have hot or cold (clio heater panel works opposite to the gtt)

once this is in start adding all the side vents, instruments etc.

top dash will need trimming round the leading edge to fit, as the dash sits closer to the bulkhead than on a clio

with the fusebox, i used the original gtt one, and fabricated brackets to mount it in the standard place, just need 2x strips at the back to support it, and the lower cover will support the front.

in the top left of the fusebox, i added an extra fuse section and wired them all to an ignition live off the back of the fusebox, so i have 6x outputs for gauges etc so everything is fused properly

    finished pics:

big thanks to miller as well, as he was the one that helped me do mine in the first place

Brilliant write up mate, i've been fitting my clio dash over the weekend and pretty much done what you did except i made new bracket for steering column so i can change column if needed.

Helps out on wiring too, was thinking of using clio loom but went against that, least the plugs aren't too bad to swap over.

i was going to use clio loom too, but miller was the one that said about changing the plugs

also was going to wire in clio fusebox but with the addition of the extra block of fuses the r5 one actually works better

    Re: Clio dash fitment guide

One question with the plugs you showed mate, what colour wires on the 5 loom match up to the wires on the clio plugs?

sorry i probably didn't make it very clear, colours are for r5 into clio plug, so clio colours are irrelivant as i've used the r5 wires straight into a clio plug
