    costs

a lad near me has one of each of these engines.

what would be rough costs of turbo converting each of these?
and which would be better to turbo?
any help would be appreciated thanks

    Re: costs

i'm currently doing one but it depends how far you want to go. You could do it for not too much money if you want to keep a std engine and run very little boost. Not sure of all the bits needed but would be along the lines of
    turbo manifold
    turbo
    different injectors
    chip for std ecu
    intercooler/chargecooler
    uprated fuel pump
    maybe a different FPR
    boost hoses
water feeds to turbo/oil feed to turbo and oil drain from turbo
    upgrade clutch?
and most probably other bits i have missed

Now if you want to run more boost then you will need to upgrade the internals with a set of low comp pistons or you could have the std pistons machined new gasket ect ect depends again how much you want to spend or how much performance you would like

Then you could go all out and completely over haul the engine and replace all the internals like put a set of forged steel rods in have everything lightened and balanced ect ect

But to be honest i would always rebuild an engine with new bearings, shells ect ect first to make sure you have a decent base to start with which could cost not a lot if you do it yourself or could cost a bit more if someone else does it for you

Or if you want an engine like handy andy's then i think you would part with the best bit of £6000 (estimate) if you do lots of bits yourself including the engine build Thats just the engine not anything else

    Re: costs

i think i would go for the low boost option first untill funds would allow more playing.

would you be able to put a rough price on the cost of doing it this way? also would both engines be similar in price to mod?

    thanks alot tom.

"or you could have the std pistons machined!!"

Has anybody machined a standard F7P/R piston before. From what i've seen there ain't alot of meat on them pistons in the first place ????

    Re: costs

would be nice but i dont have that sort of cash to throw at the 5 anymore. Would like to try do it on the cheap if possible to get me up and running, then add bits from there

would the 2litre from the williams be more work to turbo then say th 1.8 16v? And more expensive? Cheers.
