Damn car heater fan stopped working!!!

Anyone got a drawing handy of how this is wired? including fan and switch, I have no voltage at the fan and fan spins fine when wired to battery, oh and all fuses good!! is there a relay somewhere?

This happened to mine once, it was a resistor that is inside the heater box, I had to change the heater box itself, dash out the lot! ( luckly I knew a well know member who could have it out in half hour tops and back in again in not much more time!)

It might just be a case of the heater fan contacts not touching properly or need a clean. It's the white fan in the bulkhead under the plastic cage isn't it?? Or the motor's burnt out? I had a spare from a Campus that i fitted to my old GT and it worked

yes that resistor, think the heater box has to be split if you want to get that out,but whats the point might aswell replace like you did,so service friendly some parts arnt they!!!

that or what DJ rickay has suggested.

Checked again, to double check everything, and it seems i have about 5.6v at the fan terminals!!! so is that the resistor thing nakered then? i really dont wanna rip out my dash!!!

If your fan is working when wired direct to the battery then it would seem that it is the resistor in the box, it may well be an issue with the wiring but my moneys on the resistor as with what you have said.

I'm not sure what voltage the fan terminals are suppost to see but if the fan runs direct from the bat then thats 12v and im pressuming the resistor is what controls the voltage for different fan speeds.

:edit: Try measuring it with the heater fan switch on each differant setting

I have also seen two types of heater box, one with said resistor and one without.

yes phil, there's a bunch of resistors (look like springs) inside the box that control fan speed. the different voltages to the fan terminals will only be detectable with a working fan inplace, and running. with the fan removed you will get 12v on all speed settings (that is not a fault, just the result of ohm's law )
